Airflow and Comfort Diagnostics in Utah Valley

The problem we are hired for most: a house that is not comfortable even though the equipment runs. Hot upstairs, one cold bedroom, weak vents, a system that runs all afternoon. In our experience these are duct and airflow problems far more often than equipment problems, and a bigger unit fixes none of them.

Call or text (385) 292-7511 any time. Paige picks up around the clock and books your visit on the spot.

What We Measure, in the Order We Find the Causes

    1. Return air. The number one cause of a hot upstairs is too little return air on the top floor; the system blows cold air in and has no good path to pull hot air back. Adding or enlarging a return is often the highest-impact fix.

    2. Supply balance. The longest, most restrictive runs lose the fight to the short, fat ones. Balancing dampers, adjusted while we measure temperature at each register, push air where it is needed.

    3. Static pressure. Total external static pressure measured with a manometer against the equipment's nameplate maximum. We routinely find Utah systems running at 0.9 to 1.1 inches of water column on equipment rated for 0.50.

    4. Controls. One thermostat downstairs decides for the whole house; zoning (motorized dampers plus a second thermostat) is a legitimate option.

    5. Attic and envelope losses, which set the stage but are not the reason a well-designed system cannot keep up.

    Three Ways to Book It

Service call, for a single symptom: static pressure, airflow, supply temperature and amp draw, with a written report. See Pricing.

Audit, for the whole house: Tier 1 is a whole-home Manual J load calculation, blower-side static pressure and a findings report with a quote. Tier 2 adds a room-by-room Manual J with CFM targets per room. Audits are invoiced and paid up front.

Design, for a remodel, addition or new build: Manual J and Manual D with equipment selection and install oversight, in Standard, Premium and Elite tiers; Premium and Elite verify actual airflow room by room. The design step that decides room-by-room comfort on the worst day of the year is ACCA Manual T, and it is the one almost everybody skips.

    Utah Specifics

Every load calculation is adjusted for altitude and our dry climate, where the cooling load is nearly all sensible and every airflow issue shows up as a temperature issue. Every commissioning number is measured at actual conditions.

What you get: the findings in writing, what was measured, what the evidence shows, and what to do next, before anyone talks about replacement.

Airflow & Comfort Diagnostics in Utah Valley: common questions

Is my upstairs hot because the AC is too small?+

Rarely. In the Utah two-stories we measure it is usually airflow: too little return air upstairs, unbalanced supply runs, or high static pressure. A bigger AC often makes it worse.

    Do you do air balancing?+

Yes. Balancing dampers are adjusted while we measure temperature at each register, after the static pressure and return-air problems are found.

    Is zoning worth it?+

Sometimes. When one thermostat downstairs is deciding for the whole house, zoning is a legitimate fix. It is not a substitute for fixing undersized returns or high static pressure first.

Hot upstairs, cold bedroom, weak vents? Call us and we will measure the house, not guess at the box.
